I want to share the news with you in a different way. Rather than trying to push a narrative, I want to leave you with a deeper understanding of why events transpired, why you should care, and with a greater depth of knowledge and understanding about the world and people around us.
We all hear about the current affairs but our individual differences mean that we all experience and understand them differently. One of the biggest influences in the way we understand the news is through the outlets we follow. News from mainstream outlets can pollute our opinions and understanding of the world because their beliefs often filter through into their reports.
Everything from which facts have been included and omitted, to the language used, means the story becomes understood from their lens. The news very rarely gives us unbiased access to perspectives different to ones that fit their narrative. Often different views are ridiculed, deemed outlandish, or portrayed in a negative light.
To grow as a society I believe we must appreciate current affairs from the perspectives of others, not just our own, and those pushed by mainstream media outlets.
I hope to use this platform to give an explanation to perspectives that are often silenced, misunderstood or underrepresented by mainstream news. I do not want to push a narrative, or to tell you what to believe, which is why most of my articles do not reflect my own opinions. Instead I try to focus on offering contrasting perspectives to those provided by mainstream media.
By explaining why different people want or even require certain changes to our world I hope to open your mind to the effects current affairs have on different people, encourage you to question the news and think more deeply about the agendas of the various players involved in making changes to our world.
By opening our minds, breaking down barriers and better understanding the people around us that make up our wonderfully diverse society we can definitely make it a more prosperous and inclusive place for everyone.
